During its May 18, 2022, inaugural corporate breakfast at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, nonprofit partner Charlotte Family Housing presented its 2022 Community Service Award to McGuireWoods. Richmond partner Brad Ridlehoover accepted the award on behalf of the firm.
The award recognizes the substantial pro bono corporate and tax work by Ridlehoover and Raleigh office managing partner Mary Nash Rusher. They represented Charlotte Family Housing in a joint venture with an affordable-housing developer to work cooperatively on an apartment development in Raleigh, North Carolina. A subsidiary of Charlotte Family Housing will serve as the general partner of the venture.
The firm has a long pro bono history with Charlotte Family Housing, beginning with the incorporation of Workforce Initiative for Supportive Housing in 2009 and its merger with two other housing nonprofits in 2011 to create Charlotte Family Housing. Charlotte partner Harrison Marshall spearheaded these efforts.
Charlotte Family Housing is a nonprofit organization that helps working families experiencing homelessness achieve self-sufficiency through shelter, housing, supportive services and advocacy.
