McGuireWoods sponsored and attended Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles’ Access to Justice Gala on Oct. 13, 2022, at the JW Marriott.
LAFLA’s annual Access to Justice Gala honors community leaders who go above and beyond to provide justice and hope for those who are less fortunate. This year’s gala and awards ceremony recognized labor activist and civil rights leader Dolores Huerta, who received the Access to Justice Award, and U.S. Attorney E. Martin Estrada of the Central District of California, who received the Maynard Toll Award for Public Service.
Attendees from McGuireWoods included downtown Los Angeles partner Tanya Greene and associate Alexandra Hider (both Complex Commercial Litigation), as well as associates Taline Gettas (Products, Environmental & Mass Tort Litigation) and Alex Scandroli (Government Investigations & White Collar Litigation). Century City partner Molly White (Government Investigations & White Collar Litigation) also attended.
In coordination with LAFLA, Tanya is leading a McGuireWoods team serving as co-counsel on a multiplaintiff suit challenging practices by the city of Los Angeles related to the confiscation and disposal of unhoused people’s belongings. In September 2021, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a trial ruling granting a preliminary injunction that ordered LA to stop enforcing the ordinance provision that allowed the city to seize and destroy certain belongings without giving adequate notice to the items’ owners.
